About WHC WV/MD: WHC WV/MD offers compassionate, comprehensive, and community-rooted reproductive and sexual health care in Charleston, WV, and Cumberland, MD. Our work is grounded in the principles of reproductive justice and guided by the values of equity, autonomy, and dignity. Founded in 1976 to meet the urgent need for abortion care in West Virginia, WHC WV served as the state’s first and, for many years, only abortion provider. When Roe was overturned and abortion was banned in WV in 2022, our leadership responded quickly, opening WHC MD just 5 miles across the state line in Cumberland, MD, ensuring continued access for patients across the region. At WHC WV, we continue to provide annual wellness exams, contraception, STI testing and treatment, chest and cervical cancer screenings, harm reduction services, and inclusive LGBTQIA+ services, including gender-affirming hormone therapy. At WHC MD, we offer annual wellness exams, contraception, STI testing and treatment, pregnancy confirmation, gender-affirming hormone therapy, and both medication and procedural abortion care.
